Inside this century-old mansion a 10-foot wide hallway divides the house from front to back and showcases the stairway leading to the upper floor. The old, dark oak flooring is one of the most striking features as you enter.

The spacious living room off to the left has two massive silk couches complemented by a stone coffee table centered around a marble mantel and a gas fireplace.  The setting includes lively plants and a huge 200 year old country French pine armoire containing a large selection of jazz, blues, folk and classical CDs.

Begin to notice the collection of art from the Southwest.   If you're so inclined, pick up our bamboo flute or the unique handmade ceramic drum and play along.  Notice the challenging art of J. D. Challenger above the fireplace as Bill Worrell's early man statute oversees the world from his stand on the mantel.  A trio of mystical images acquired from one of our favorite galleries in town, Art Under a Hot Tin Roof, located just a few blocks to the south of us, accents the wall.   This is a perfect room for family or business meetings and small group discussions.

Snuggle into the soft leather love seat or chair and enjoy the wood-burning fireplace under John Nieto's Fancy Dancer in the cherry paneled library. Let your back enjoy the hand-made walnut and cherry rope rocking chair handcrafted for us by Gerry Grant. Select a book of poems, refresh your memory of a famous Shakespearean passage, relax in the world of poetry, go for an "adrenaline rush" novel, or breeze through the many travel books and magazines at you leisure.

Fresh air, cool evening breezes, and comfortable lounging await you on our Plantation Porch. In the warmer times, take a nap, read a book or just relax under the ceiling fan and enjoy the comfort of fresh air flowing through the Plantation shutters.  The wind chimes will take you away from your daily worries.

The smell of fresh ground coffee beans brewing may invite you into the early morning  sun of our dining room. Enjoy a full breakfast overlooking the side yard of old oaks and towering magnolias. John Nieto's Coyote carefully watches over diners to make sure Terry Tessem's pottery plates are cleaned.  Five individual pine tables, hand made for us in Virginia, easily accommodate small corporate meetings or social events, private dining for two, and gaming or work space later in the day when required.

Inspect all of John Nieto's chiefs, J.D. Challenger's warriors, Dan Day's "Big Foot" and "Kokopelli" and our other art from such American artists as Lawrence Lee, R. C. Gorman, Amado Pena and others.  The collection of pottery, represented in our choice of coffee cups, lamps and plates mounted on several walls, will give you a rewarding and enjoyable tour through the house.

Rest and read, discuss and chat, play and walk, shop and tour. . .it's all your choice while you relax and enjoy yourself at Highland Place! This couple did:  "Thanx for the WONDERFUL experience!  The atmosphere was beautiful, the room was gorgeous, and the food was awesome!!"  And so did this one:  "Our stay has been a nourishment to both body and soul."
